Research
| AI Tool | Otter.ai |
|---|---|
| What is it? | An AI collaborator function that converts speach to text in real time. It transcribes meetings, generates summaries, and extracts meaningful insights from the transcriptions. |
| Why is it relevant to the theme? | AI is quickly evolving to take over the role of notetaker in user research in some aspects. Time factors like length of interviews, recording rendering, upload/download, pressing play/pause, typing, repeat can quickly take more time then instantly having a transcript with potential insights available immediately upon ending an interview. |
| Why did it stand out to you? | I first became exposed to Otter.ai when I was in my grad program needing to transcribe and create text transcripts of user interviews. At the time, I landed at using Premiere Auto-transcribe as it was a service I was already paying for. |
| What does it say about AI and design? | Transcriptions are very much like reciepts to communicate what was purchased and when. IT gives a sense of a journey by recounting a specific time, activities and decisions to be made. Much like design, it's a cookie trail to generate insights to evolve conversations and drive behavioral changes. |
